Imphal, September 06 2011:
Before initiating any work of the committee headed by the Chief Secretary for re-organisation of administrative and police boundaries, the State Government should first honour and comply with the directive made by the Union Home Minister to the then Chief Minister of Manipur in 1990 to merge Zeliangrong areas of Churachandpur and Senapati districts to Tamenglong district, demanded the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF).
In compliance with the same directive, the respective Deputy Commissioners of Churachandpur and Senapati districts had already submitted detail reports to the State Government of necessary action.
However, the successive State Governments failed to fulfil the directive till date.
The Zeliangrong people would not remain silent spectators if any attempt is made by the State Government for further bifurcation of Zeliangrong areas and merger to any other areas or districts on the pretext of administrative convenience or other unjustified reasons.
The directive to merge Zeliangrong areas of other districts to Tamenglong district should be materialised first before declaration of Sadar Hills district or any other new district, the ZYF asserted in a press release.
Meanwhile, the All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) has accused the State Government of marginalizing the people of Tamenglong district.
Although thousands of trucks loaded with essential commodities have been plying on NH 37 much before the economic blockade came into force, none of the essential commodities are arriving in Tamenglong district, the AZSU said in a press release.
Taking strong exception to Chief Minister O Ibobi leaving the State for Tokyo in the midst of the prevailing crisis, the AZSU asserted that this indicated sheer irresponsibility and indifference on the part of the Chief Minister for non-Meitei communities.
Questioning if NH 37 is meant for transportation of commodities exclusively for a particular community, the AZSU asked as to why adequate essential commodities have not been provided for Tamenglong district and its vicinity.
