48 hrs bandh from Feb 4 on NH-37

Denouncing the negligence shown by the incumbent Government and the concerned authorities regarding the pollution caused by the construction companies along Ijei river, the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation (RNYOM) has resolved to boycott all National projects being undertaken under North Frontier Railway and called 48 hours bandh along NH-37 from February 4 onwards, said a statement of RNYOM president, Nicholas Gonmei yesterday.
The statement conveyed that anyone, other than movement of paramilitary forces, medical and educational emergencies, seen violating the directives will be dealt with serious implications.
Maintaining that construction companies and suppliers are supposedly mining in an unregulated manner even after repeated call by several CSOs on various occasion, it alleged that Coastal Project Limited in particular is seen violating every safety norm by dumping the chemical filled water from the tunnel directly into the river without any filtration process and the prerequisite clearance from the State Pollution Control Board.
The construction site at Saheibung, Tunnel T-12, P1 is identified as the single major source responsible for the pollution of river day in and day out, it claimed, adding that the undertaking has threatened the very existence of several villages whose livelihood depend on the said river.
Saying that the organisation condemned the preferential treatment of the Government in various issues concerning tribal populace, it cautioned that the State Government should be held responsible for any untoward incident resulting from any form of agitation.
