Imphal, December 17 2017: The Senjam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation has clarified that yesterday's violent con-frontation between villagers of Senjam Chirang, Senjam Khunou and Haraothel has nothing to do with construc-tion of National Sports University .

The incident resulted from construction of piggery farms and other farms on the bank of Sahilok river which can pollute the river, said the organisation .

They also organised a protest demonstration denouncing the confrontation at Senjam Khunou community hall today .

They said that people of Senjam Chirang, Senjam Khunou, Khurkhul, Phum-lou, Langjing, Loitang Khu- nou and Loitang Leikinthabi are dependent on Sahilok river for water .

People were protesting against any activity which may pollute Sahilok water but it resulted in a violent confrontation, said the Sen-jam Khunou and Senjam Chirang Joint Development Organisation .

Expressing grave concern over alleged encroach- ment into the areas allotted to Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou by the Manipur State Durbar in 1927-28, the organisation demanded that 40-Senjam Khunou village of Imphal West district which is currently under the jurisdiction of Saparmeina police station should be brought within the jurisdiction of Sekmai police station .

They also demanded the concerned authority check people from encroaching into the areas allotted to Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou by the Manipur State Durbar .

They said that different modes of agitation would be launched in case the State Government does not take up some concrete steps by December 24 to resolve the matter.
