52 patients successfully operated during 11th Surgical Outreach

Tamengong, August 14 2016: In what could be called a major achievement, Tamenglong District Hospital today successfully operated as many as 52 patients during the 11th Surgical Outreach Mission, our correspondent reports.

The outreach mission was organised by District Hospital Committee, Tamenglong under the sponsorship of Janghemlung Panmei, MLA 53- Tamenglong (ST) AC.

Out of the 52 patients who were operated today, 24 patients had serious problems while 28 patients were said to be suffering from minor problems.

The operation team was led by Dr N Jitendra, Professor and Head of Department (Surgery), JNIMS.

Speaking to media persons, Dr N Jitendra said that despite bad roads, the doctors voluntarily came to the district as they did not want the patients to travel long journeys.

While thanking the local MLA Janghemlung Panmei for sponsoring the free surgical outreach camp, Dr N Jitendra said they could not organise such free surgical camp on their own due to shortage of funds.

One Aduan Pamei said surgical outreach camps are much needed for those who cannot afford to go to Imphal for treatment.

While thanking all the doctors for organising such camp, he appealed to the State Government to send specialist doctors to the district hospital in Tamenglong to perform daily operations.

Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer, Tamenglong said poor people who could not afford better health facilities in Imphal can get benefit from the camp.

He said many people had asked him to organise free surgical outreach camps in the district before but the Health Department could do nothing owing to lack of fund and manpower.

On the number of doctors in the district, Chambo Gonmei said nine specialist doctors were recently posted at the district but only one has joined so far who too has taken maternity leave.

The other doctors have not reported yet, he added.

He urged the State Government to speed up the construction works of the 50 bedded hospital.

Dr Chambo Gonmei also pointed out the need to construct more quarters for doctors in Tamenglong.
