KSA ups demand with more sit-ins

As part of the agitation demanding protection of indigenous people of the State, a series of demonstration was held today at different places under the auspices of Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) .
The demonstrators demanded reservation of eight seats of the Assembly for indigenous people and removal of non-locals from the electoral roll.
According to a statement issued by the KSA, demonstration was held today along Imphal-Pangei road wherein students of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya; SV Gatewell School and Kanan Devi Memorial School formed human chain along the road.
The students also shouted slogans like 'Reserve all the ACs of Manipur for indigenous people,' 'remove non-locals from electoral roll' .
Students of Manipur Public School, Liberal College, Camps English Academy also took out a rally along Imphal-Dimapur road.
The students confronted the police when they tried to storm the Luwangsangbam residence of Chief Minister N Biren.
Students of Brilliance Academy formed human chain along Uripok line.
At Lamlong, students of Lamlong Hr Sec school and members of Apunba Khurai Lamlong Keithel Ema staged a sit-in.
They later formed human chain and raised several slogans.
Speaking at the protest site, Apunba Khurai Lamlong Keithel Ema secretary said any attempt to allow non-locals to vote in the ensuing GP elections would be construed as a stand against the indigenous people and an invitation to more unrest.
Human chain was also formed by students of Little Master English Hr Sec School, Brilliant Public school and Samurou HS along Irabot Road.
To show solidarity to the agitation spearheaded by KSA, vendors of Khwairamband Keithel staged a sit in at Khwairamband Keithel.
They also pledged to lend support to KSA until their demand for protection of indigenous people is fulfilled.
Similar protest was also staged by women vendors at Wangjing Keithel.
Protest was also staged at Ningthoukhong temporary market by Ningthoukhong Meira Paibi Lup and Ningthoukhong Keithel Ema.
Students of RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya also formed human chain at Jiribam, the statement added.
