Battle of Silchar track remembered

Imphal, June 25 2014:
Continuing the 70th Anniversary Celebration of the Battle of Imphal, Battle of Silchar Track was remembered in a function held at Lamdan in Bishupur district today.
An expedition, taken part by 89 participants including seven women, was carried out from the camp of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association to Laimaton peak in commemoration of the fierce battle fought between Japanese and Allied Forces during World War-II .
MMTA President and Commemoration Committee Executive Member Surjit said that the anniversary celebration would make Manipur known to other parts of the globe.
Saying that Old Cachar Road was used a major route during World War-II, Surjit said that it has been assumed that Battle of Silchar Track commenced on June 25 .

Japanese student Masakazre Kobayashi, who is currently pursuing MA Social Science in Delhi University, also took part in today's expedition tour.
Masakazre lauded the Commemoration Committee for organising the event which intended to remember and pay homage to the soldiers who lost their lives during the fierce battle fought during World War-II.
The anniversary celebration is being jointly organised by Government of Manipur, World War-II Foundation, Manipur Tourism Forum and Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association.
