Awareness drive on protection of plant varieties

Under the sponsorship of PPV and FRA, Union Ministry of Agriculture, Centre for Orchid Gene Conservation of Eastern Himalayan Region organised a one-day training cum awareness programme on protection of plant varieties and farmers Right Act at FEEDS/KVK, Sylvan campus yesterday.
Apart from the officers of different line departments, the programme was attended by around 70 farmers, said a press release.
While speaking at the programme, PPV and FRA Registrar Manoj Shrivastava explained the farmer's Right Act 2001 and the procedure on how to apply and register the new varieties of various crops.
Director of COGCEHR Hengbung, Dr AN Rao spoke on the orchid wealth of North East region and its conservation and sustainable utility.
Dr Sitaram Dhiman of YS Parmar University, Solan gave lecture on production technology of cut flowers.
