Volunteers of BEE Net Manipur (Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment Network, Manipur) in collaboration with Pettigrew College, Ukhrul have planted thousands of tree saplings in the college campus yesterday, informed a release.
The tree plantation programme was taken up under the theme "Towards Greener Manipur".
Tree saplings of different varieties like yongchak, jackfruit, gooseberry, teak, leihao, chingthrao etc were planted jointly by 53 volunteers of BEE Net, teaching and non-teaching staff of Pettigrew College, its student leaders, church members and people of the surrounding areas.
After the tree plantation programme, an environmental awareness programme was organised at the college with BEE Net president Dr Kh Shamungou, Pettigrew College Principal Dr Kh Ibohanbi and Academic in-charge of the college M Masun Stone as presidium members, it added.
