CCpur, November 06 2018:
A sit in protest was organised at Khumujamba Meetei Leikai, Churachandpur, against the custodial killing of Gurumayum Jiteswar Sharma, Thangjam Satish, Thounaojam Prem, RK Ranel and Phijam Naobi by 3 Corps Intelligence and Surveillance Unit (CISU) of Indian Army.
The protest was jointly organized by JAC, Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and Churachandpur Meitei Leikai Youth Club (CMLYC).
The womenfolk of Khumujamba Meetei Leikai demand those concerned to hand over the mortal remains of G Jiteswar Sharma and Th Satish to the family members, to set up independent investigating agency against extrajudicial execution, to revoke AFSPA from Manipur and to punish the army officials involved in extra judicial killings.
Chairman of COHR, Phulindro Konsam said that AFSPA was passed by the Parliament without debate and consensus to suppress the freedom and liberty of Manipur and claimed that more than 10000 innocent civilians have lost their lives due to AFSPA.
It is like a genocide to disperse and wipe out the indigenous people of Manipur, he added.
On the other hand, vice president of AMUCO, NC Modhuchandra said that the conflict situation in Manipur is based on politics and as such it cannot be solved with mitralization and imposition of AFSPA.
It has to be resolved through political dialogue.
AFSPA is a form of undeclared war against the innocent civilians and it is against the United Nation's Geneva Convention for humanity, liberty and freedom.
The black law should be revoked or abolished before it's too late, he urged.
He further demanded the mortal bodies of the victims to be handed over to their family members.
He also appealed to the people to unite and stand against the extrajudicial murder of innocents in the State.
