Remand for accused

Imphal, October 03 2026:
The Special Court of POCSO, Imphal West, has remanded a 22-year-old non-local man into judicial custody in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a minor girl at a rented room at Thangal Keithel under City Police Station on September 28 .
The accused, Rahul Kumar, son of Hari Ram of Thana Kotwa, Bihar, presently staying at a rented house at Thangal Keithel, was produced before the Court by a team of City police after completion of his police custody period.
The police sought judicial remand.
Special Public Prosecutor (PP) for the State submitted that on September 29, the grandmother of the minor victim lodged a written complaint with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of City Police Station, alleging that on September 28, the accused called the minor girl and induced her to meet him near Nagamapal on the false promise of marriage.
Taking advantage of the minor's innocence, the accused allegedly took her to his rented room and sexually assaulted her twice against her will and without her consent, the Special PP submitted.
During police custody interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to the charges and disclosed that he had contacted the victim and exchanged messages with her.
The victim subsequently agreed to meet him and arrived at Nagamapal Auto Parking in a passenger auto.
The accused then allegedly took her to his rented room, where he sexually assaulted her at night, the prosecution submitted.
The Special PP further submitted that the investigation so far had revealed strong prima facie evidence against the accused and that he had knowingly committed the alleged crime.
The prosecution sought judicial custody remand, submitting that the accused was required in custody for the smooth investigation of the case.
After hearing the submissions of the Special PP and perusing the case records, the Court remanded the accused to judicial custody till October 17 for smooth investigation of the case.
