Imphal, March 30:
To mark the occasion of Sajibu Khudol Tamba, the All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) and the Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak (MEPWAK) presented simple gifts to the leaders and elders of Chiru, Kharam, Thadou, Liangmei, Vaiphei and Kuki tribes settling at Kangchup area.
As a part of the campaign which would continue till April 14, simple gifts were presented to the village chiefs and representatives of the Kangchup Area Tribal Youth Organisation.
Speaking on the occasion, AMESCO general secretary Nando asserted that AMESCO does not seek alliance on the basis of religion.
Any person may profess any religion but the basic objective of the AMESCO is to promote peaceful co-existence among the 34 ethnic groups of Manipur.
Even as there is a little difference in culture, language and customs according to the places of settlement, all the ethnic groups of Manipur have similar appearances and are of the same origin, observed social worker Lamboi Haokip.
However, lack of due respect for the minority groups on the part of majority community Meiteis has been sowing seeds of distrust and hatred among the different ethnic groups, he said.
To remove such distrust and hatred, the Meiteis should take up pragmatic actions to restore the age old filial relationships rather than just shouting for integrity.
If there is sincere action commensurate to the words for integrity, unity and integrity would come on its own in Manipur, Lamboi remarked.
The function organised in collaboration with the Kangchup Area Tribal Youth Organisation was attended by MEPWAK advisor Mitlu, MEPWAK president Keinahanbi, advisor of Poirei Leimarol Ibechaobi, vice-chairman of Kharam Thadou village Athem, secretary of Singda Kuki village authority Lalboi, secretary of Ireng Liangmei village authority Apam, chief of Kangchup Geljang village authority Lalnenpu, chief of Kanchup Chiru village Khongding, Kangchup Tuikup village chief Punkhohao, Kangchup Chingdong village chief Haokhopao and others as presidium members.
