Convention says no to Bills which threaten State

A political convention held today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound under the aegis of AMUCO, CCSK and UCM resolved that the Government of India should not adopt any resolution or pass any Bill which can potentially disintegrate Manipur or distort its socio-political structure.
Even though as many as 13 political parties were invited to the political convention which was held on the theme 'In search of the elusive peace cutting across party lines to save Manipur from disintegration under the evil design of India', only six political parties attended the convention.
Notably, Congress, NPP and NPF were among the political parties which stayed away from the convention.
Another resolution says that the Chief Minister should convene an all political parties meeting and take a collective decision to elicit an unambiguous clarification from the Prime Minister on the statements of interlocutor RN Ravi which were published by the Indian Express on April 26.The third resolution says that all political parties active in the State should fight collectively for the integrity of Manipur and the sanctity of its territorial boundary.
Speaking at the convention, Ch Chidananda who represented BJP said that BJP as the ruling party would protect the State's integrity and all its interests.
The Prime Minister's assurance given to a joint team of AMUCO, CCSK and UCM that any statement/comment given by anybody other than himself on the Naga peace talk should not be taken as truth or official still stands, Chidananda said.
He also appealed to all the people not to accept any statement made by anyone other than the Prime Minister as truth.
To BJP, the State's interests always precede the party's interests.
BJP will never commit the folly of clinging to power when any critical issue which threatens the State's integrity erupts.
Saying that BJP as the ruling party is ready to be the vanguard, Chidananda appealed to all the people as well as political parties to join hands and safeguard the interest of Manipur collectively.
CPI(M) Manipur State Secretary Ksh Santa said that State Government has not been saying anything whether the memorandum drafted by a sub-committee comprising of different political parties and headed by the Deputy Chief Minister regarding the GoI-NSCN(IM) political dialogue and its possible impacts on the integrity of Manipur has been submitted to the Prime Minister or not.
If the State leaders of a political party say one thing while their central leaders speak a different language, then the particular political party is openly deceiving the people of Manipur, Santa said.
Central leaders of CPI(M) always listen to State leaders of the party.
The party's State leaders and Central leaders always stand united on the issues of Manipur's integrity and the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM should not infringe on the interests of Manipur, Santa added.
CPI Manipur State Council Assistant Secretary Kh Surchand opined that what RN Ravi stated on the Naga peace talks are not his personal opinion but reflections of the Government of India's position and wisdom.
RN Ravi has been expressing only what the Government of India has been thinking or working on.
The 'unique Naga history' being advocated by NSCN-IM leadership including Th Muivah encompassing Nagas of Manipur is rather surprising for they have been conveniently overlooking the more than 2000 years old history of Manipur, Surchand remarked.
LJP Manipur spokesman W Ibohal said that interlocutor RN Ravi's statements on the Naga peace talk were perhaps aimed at testing the disposition of the people of Manipur on the issue.
The interlocutor's statements deserve full attention of all the people for the Government of India might be thinking that conceding to such 'small demands' is a small price for solving a complex issue like the Naga issue.
The ongoing peace talk between Government of India and NSCN-IM cannot be termed comprehensive for only one Naga faction is involved in the dialogue process, Ibohal said.
Political parties always come secondary when they are compared with a Nation.
LJP will always stand for Manipur above the party's interest, he added.
MPP and MPDF representatives too spoke at the convention.
