Dr Nara strikes confident post poll stand

While conveying gratitude to all the Congress and BJP supporters who had voted for him in the interest of the State, CPI candidate in Inner Manipur PC Dr Moirangthem Nara has exuded confidence that he would get a sizeable number of votes which were hitherto not taken into account.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, Dr Nara thanked all the voters who came out with great enthusiasm and voted for him in the Lok Sabha election held on April 18.Claiming that a large number of people who usually voted for BJP or Congress did not vote for the BJP or Congress contender this time, Dr Nara said that there were reports of many BJP and Congress workers voting for him in the interest of the State by keeping aside their respective party's interests.
The Lok Sabha election was not a competition between BJP and Congress but it was a battle between wrongdoers and justice seekers.
"In case I emerge victorious, the victory is not mine alone.
It is a victory for all the justice seekers who wish to live with dignity", Dr Nara asserted.
Saying that good governance would not be possible until and unless election is held in a free and fair manner, Dr Nara said that any Government formed after committing all kinds of wrongs and foul plays would never be able to establish peace and stability in the society.
Saying that any decision taken by the masses conscientiously would have been in his favour, Dr Nara exuberated confidence that a vast majority of the people stood behind him.
The 17th Lok Sabha election held in the State was however not free and fair.
There were reports of rampant electoral malpractices including wooing of voters with money by BJP and Congress, he charged.
Reiterating that the present electoral system has many rooms for manipulation and malpractices, Dr Nara underscored the growing need for reviewing the electoral system.
The repoll held in 12 polling stations of four Assembly segments testified that the election was not held in accordance to rules and norms.
All the four Assembly segments are represented by Chief Ministers, BJP Ministers and MLAs.
He said that people would never accept the false charges made by Andro and Keirao representatives in connection with the untoward incidents which took place during the repoll.
The allegation that CPI women supporters wooed voters by offering cash was completely baseless.
The repoll was a sweet victory for those who sought repoll and a humiliating defeat for those who indulged in rampant malpractices during the polling held on April 18, he said.
Saying that he could see a new encouraging trend in the ongoing election, Dr Nara said that a large number of people particularly youngsters opted to weigh merits of candidates rather than parties and the polling percentage was higher.
He went on to claim that they could see a considerable number of 'silent' voters.
CPI State Secretary L Sotinkumar too thanked all the voters who supported and voted for Dr Nara after taking into account the party's roles in different issues which confronted the State from time to time.
Sotinkumar said that BJP workers assaulted CPI's polling agent for Kyamgei AC's 6/6 polling station on his way to the polling station.
It was highly condemnable that the BJP workers not only assaulted the CPI agent but also unfolded a phanek over his head.
Further, BJP workers assaulted a team of CPI volunteers as they went to see the polling process at Andro AC's 7/32 Yambem polling station.
The BJP supporters not only vandalised the vehicle in which the CPI volunteers were travelling but also physically assaulted one AIYF leader who was driving the vehicle, Sotinkumar said.
CPI election agents have filed cases regarding the two incidents at the police stations concerned .
The party would fight relentlessly against the practice of wooing voters with cash, he added.
