State chief Minister O Ibobi has congratulated Manipuri pugilist Mary Kom on her winning the World Women's Boxing Championship for the fifth time consecutively.
In a message, Chief Minister, Ibobi said, "It's a matter of immense pleasure and joy that Ms Mary Kom has won fifth World Women's boxing title in Bridgetown (Barbados) on 18th Septembe, 2010"."It's a moment of supreme pride for the people of Manipur that overcoming all odds Ms Mary Kom won the World Championship consecutively fifth time.
Her feat will be recorded in golden letters in the annals of sports history of India and Manipur".
Extending his heartiest congratulations to Mary Kom on behalf of the people of Manipur, the Chief Minister said that "Mary Kom is the pride of Nation and State.
The whole State is in awe and respect towards her on this amazing feat; people are celebrating her success with indescribable joy and happiness".
"We are confident that she will bring more laurels for the Nation and Statae in future," Chief Minister Ibobi added in his message.Meanwhile, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has also congratulated Mary Kom on her becoming the World Women's Boxing Champion for the fifth consecutive year.
In a statement, Secretary, Publicity and Propaganda, Laishram Sanajaoba Meetei said that it is a matter of pride for the people of Manipur that Mary Kom has once again become the world champion.
Because of such a brave sportsperson having been born in Manipur, the world has been shown that there is a people known as Manipuri in the North Eastern region in India.
Mary Kom is such a precious jewel, and a distinguished personality among the women, HERICOUN said and hoped that she would be able to bring more laurels for Manipur in future.
