Contending that volunteers of AMADA Lamlai Local Council were provoked due to undesired conduct of police personnel resulting in the August 12 brawl at a drinking joint in Lamlai area several social and voluntary organisations have demanded unconditional release of four persons detained/jailed in connection with the incident.
The bodies also opined that police authorities need to initiate appropriate punitive action against the irresponsible police personnel instead of detaining civil society activists striving to free the manipuri society from the destructive habit of alcoholism, and random sale and use of other intoxicating items.
Condemning the detention includes Youth Progressive Front (Yaingangpokpi), Yaingangpokpi Meira Paibi Lup, Thamnapokpi Women's Development Association, Lalambung Makhong Takhellambam Leikai Semgat Sagat Apunba Lup, Khwai lamphel Women's United Development Organisation, United Women's Front (Khurai Soibam Leikai), Lamlai Students' ideal Club, Chalou Youth Union Club, youth Development Committee (Nambol), United Women's Development Organisation (Nambol), All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation (Palace Compound), Eastern Lion Club (Nongada), Youth Voluntary Organisation (Lilong), Eleven Star Coordinating Committee (Lilong), Citizen Development Organisation (Lilong), Hobby on Target Association and Arapti Mamang Leikai Women Association.
