A five-day long design awareness training programme being organised by the Directorate of Commerce and Industries under Deen Dayal Hathkargha Protsahan Yojana has begun today.
Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi and Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) PC Lawmkunga inaugurated the training programme as chief guest and president respectively.
Director of Commerce and Industries Dhiraj Yumnam was also present at the occasion.
While giving the welfare, Director of Commerce and Industries Dhiraj Yumnam informed that gathering that Govt of India has evaluated to assess the declination of weaving activities in Manipur and found out that there has been no declination in the activities except changes of hands.
The chief guest of the function stated that the benefit under Deen Dayal Hathkargha Protsahan Yojana has extended to 238 societies during 2000-01 and 2002-03.Another 76 projects have also been cleared by the Government of India for the year 2005-06.Subsidies have also been given through the bank account of the societies and a small portion has been given in the form of kind to ensure the actual implementation of the projects.
He further informed that a State level monitoring committee will be constituted to supervise, advise and monitor the progress of implementation of all handloom schemes.
Many other schemes like 10 percent rebate scheme, health insurance scheme, Mahatma Gandhi Bunker Bima Yojana, etc, are being implemented for the betterment of the handloom weavers.
The president of the function stated that the State Level Project Committee has been the final authority to recommend projects under Deen Dayal Hathkargha Protsahan Yojana and the Government of India is the final authority to sanction the projects.
OSD (Handloom) M Rajen Singh, who also spoke at the occasion explained that the design awareness training programme is a driver for dissemination of information about the important and application of designs in the handloom cloth production.
