Imphal, July 23 2024:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has categorically stated that the Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is only to secure the seat of power of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhavan today, MPCC president K Meghachandra said that the Union Budget 2024-25 presented in the Parliament today didn't mention anything about Manipur.
Saying that Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Manipur expected some relief packages for them from the Budget but all their hope has been shattered now, the Congress leader continued that there was nothing in the Budget which would make the people of Manipur rejoice.
IDPs have been languishing in relief camps for over 14 months with limited resources, he said and added that the Budget contradicts what the people of Manipur were expecting.
Further stating that the first Budget of the Modi 3.0 ignores Manipur and her people, Meghachandra claimed that the Union Budget only focuses on securing the seat of power of the Prime Minister.
He also said that the Union Budget is biased.
Continuing that the BJP Government in Manipur didn't even try to take developmental packages from the Centre and resolve the crisis in the State, Meghachandra added that the people of Manipur don't get any benefit of having a double engine BJP Government at the Centre and the State.
The Congress MLA went on to claim that there is no reform in the taxation system and the Union Budget continues with the tax terrorism.
