Imphal, August 14:
The All Colleges Tribal Students Organisation (ACTSOM) has threatened to pursue State wide agitations in case MLAs, alleged to have bashed-up Actsom volunteers, issue public apology within August 18.Further expressing annoyance against silence maintained by the Chief Minister till date on the incident claimed to have taken place on july 30, the student body also asserted it would place the matter before the Union Government.
ACTSOM had been alleging that MLAs Shyamkumar (Andro), Meghachandra (Wangkhem), Surchandra (Kakching) and Dr U Debendra (Wabagai) along security personnel acted offensively when they had arrived to collect items from the Tribal Development Godown without official document/consent.
Meanwhile, Tribal Vigilance Forum strongly condemning the July 30 atrocities allegedly involving the MLAs endorsed ACTSOM's demand for a public apology besides pledging support to the student body in its future course of action/agitation.
Condemning atrocities committed by the elected legislators and their security escorts, the Forum observed "the honourable MLAs zooming around in their allotted vehicles with security escorts in unbecoming but like an organised gang.
The honour and position MLAs enjoy is not obtained through beating up the innocent people.
therefore the MLAs need to issue
apologies as demanded by the student organisation in the larger interest of the people of the State".
