Imphal, October 07 2014:
The Shangpun Long (SPL), Ukhrul district, an umbrella organisation of 18 villages, has accused State police personnel of detaining its secretary and confiscating some hard copies of a seminar programme along with Rs 3400 from him yesterday at Poirou Chingjin under Andro police station.
The secretary, NK Phungreishung s/o NK Shimthar of Nambashi Horton was on his way to mobilise a one day seminar scheduled to be held on Oct 11 at Shungriphai village, a statement issued by chairman of SPL Ningkhalem Chithung said.
"Those police personnel accused the secretary of SPL as a sympathiser of the UNC as the resource person of the seminar is Gaidon Kamei, former general secretary of UNC," it stated.
The chairman urged the police personnel to return all the printed seminar programmes and the cash at the earliest to avoid public agitation for such a trivial reason.
Strongly condemning the incident, the SPL further demanded the Home Minister to initiate disciplinary action against the police personnel.
It also categorically asked whether organising a seminar is a crime and if it was a fault to invite former UNC functionaries as resource persons in any programme.
