Two killed by NSCN-K are labourers: AR

Dimapur, October 06 2015: The IGAR (North) based in Kohima has said that the two persons awarded 'capital punishment' by the NSCN-K on October 5 in Zunheboto district, Nagaland were daily wage labourers from Bihar.

In a press note, the IGAR (N) said the NSCN (K) has claimed to have executed two non-Nagas in Zunheboto district on October 5.According to NSCN(K), the individuals were informers of Army.

"However, as per inputs received from the civil administration the two non-Nagas who were shot by NSCN (K) were daily wage labourers from Bihar," the IGAR (N) stated.

"One of the labourers had been working in Nagaland for the past ten years while the second labourer had arrived only around mid September 2015.How Bihari daily wage labourers can provide information of NSCN(K) cadres to the Army can only be explained by the murderers who have carried out the execution or their wise leaders who have ordered the execution," it added.

"It is well known that NSCN(K) is facing problems of very low morale among their cadres.

There is severe trust deficit between NSCN(K) cadres from Nagaland and Myanmar," said the IGAR(N) press release.

Shortage of funds and fresh recruits is another problem being faced by them.

The intention of murdering the two innocent labourers appears to be an act of frustration and desperation.

According to the press release of the Assam Rifles, frustration because their bank accounts have been frozen and their properties are being confiscated by the government, and desperation because no contractor or villager is willing to give them money, food and shelter.

When stealing becomes difficult and begging does not produce the desired results, then they resort to killing innocent non-nagas to spread fear and terror, it added.

The Assam Rifles strongly condemned this "barbaric and mindless" act by NSCN(K) of murdering two innocent labourers in cold blood.

"It is expected that the law agencies will take all necessary actions to bring the perpetrators to justice.

We also believe that such acts of violence will be condemned by the Naga Mothers' Association, Naga Hoho, NTC, Tribal Hohos and all NGOs who are yearning for peace and tranquillity in the region.

We also hope that adequate compensation will be paid to the families of the murdered individuals by the State Government," said the IGAR(N) press release.
