Imphal, July 31:
The All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) strongly has resented against the recent Government order No 17/2/08-SE (S) dated June 24, 2008 for discontinued extension of Grant-in-Aid to 171 aided schools in the hill districts.
AZSU General secretary Joshua Dangmei on Thursday pointed out that while adopting the order, the right to education to provide free and compulsory education to all children between the age group of 6-14 will be adversely affected.
He also warned that even the centrally sponsored scheme popularly known as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mission will be affected too in the nine districts thus violating the norms of free education.
The Union also appealed to the Government to review or cancel the order as soon as possible in the interest of the poor students residing in the hill districts of Manipur.
Meanwhile, Joshua Dangmei said the student union is against the kidnapping of students.
"This is against the human rights especially the child's rights," said the general secretary of the apex Zeliangrong students' body.
"Education is the temple of learning and it should be free from all types of disturbances," advised Joshua while appealing to the Government to take appropriate steps to bring about law and order situation in the state that would ensure free zone education.
He also requested that bandhs and strikes be stopped as these incidents disturb the functioning of the educational institutions.
"Let us be an example of free zone education to other states; let us be a trend," said the AZSU general secretary while stating, "We can all bring about a free zone education if we all stand together for the cause".
