KYA annual meet concludes

Kanggui, January 31 2014 : The 10th Annual Ward Wise Sports Meet 2014 of Keithelmanbi Youth Association, Sadar Hills concluded today with the KYA Beauty Pageant Contest formally bringing down the curtains in the night.

The noon session held at KYA Day was graced by former Minister Chungkhokai Doungel as Chief Guest while Ngahchong Kipgen, ZEO Kangpokpi and Tongpao Lhouvum, Chairman Keithelmanbi VA were the guest of honour and functional president respectively.

Keithelmanbi village is the largest Thadou-Kuki speaking dominated Kuki village in the state where the first ever Kut was organised in the year 1979, said C Doungel adding that the village is a significant place for the Kuki community.

"It is very much vital for a man to know his identity, culture and tradition," asserted the former Finance Minister reminding that when there is unity there is nothing one cannot do.

The noon session was marked by display of various Kuki cultural dance by troupes from all the 11 wards that took part at the annual sports meet.

Significantly, the largest LAMKOL (social gathering dance) was witnessed on the opening day of the Meet with the participation of 1000 participants thus breaking the previous record of 700 participants.

Speaking on the sidelines of the social gathering dance Lamminthang Kipgen, president KYA said that the Lamkol was organised in a 30 diameter area with two circles inside the said area accommodating 1000 participants in breaking the previous record.

Paotinlun Chongloi, MDC, ADC Sadar Hills, civil society representatives and local Church leaders also attended the function.

In the meantime, Lunsieh Kipgen, IPS, who graced the night session as the chief guest pointing out that assuming weapons only for killing or destruction would be wrong as bombs, guns and other weapons are means for controlling law and order to make peace and sound environment.

The IPS officer continued that every weapon holders, legal or illegal, should value and honour the true and real purpose of weapons and should utilize to bring peace and tranquillity by controlling law and order.

He also asserted that beauty has its own purpose and every beauty pageant should know well the purpose of it and utilized for the good and well being of the society.

Chongsaheikim Chongloi of Ward No 8 was crowned Miss KYA 2014 while Lamnunkim Singsit of Ward No 5 and Nengkhanching Sitlhou of Ward No 8 were crowned 1st and 2nd Runner-up respectively among 24 contestants for the KYA tiara.

Winner of Miss KYA tiara was awarded cash prize of Rs 10,000 while the first and second runner-up were presented Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 respectively.

Hoineithem Kipgen of Ward No 5 was declared Fashion Queen carrying of Rs 2000 prize and crown.

In men's football and volleyball competitions, Ward No 8 emerged as the champions with Ward No 4 wining the women's football title and Ward No 9 claiming the women's volleyball crown at the ward-wise sports meet.

Simon of Ward No 8 (A) bagged the top scorer award, Lenminsang of Ward No 6 (A) declared the Best Defender, Thangjoy of W/No.4 (A) adjudged the Best Player and Thonglam of W/No 9 winning the Best Keeper award.

The night session was also attended by Benny Touthang, special contractor as guest of honour and N Kipgen, IFS as the chief host.

Zomuan Thangzom, Lamminlian Vaiphei, MSC for PCR, Maneithangza Kipgen, Laxmikanta Singh and Zen Gangte attended the night session as the special invitees.

Apart from various prominent Kuki Artistes popular Manipuri film actor Guna also attended the night session.

Highlight of the night session included popular numbers of Maneithangza's "Jingkar Bongnoi", Lovejoy's "Lungset Kidang", Collin's "Maya" and Kakai's "Kakivet le Hoi kakisai" .
