Imphal, April 25 2009:
Demanding repoll in 16 polling stations where Congress workers reportedly indulged in mass rigging, Left parties have launched a mass agitation from today.
The agitation has been launched under the Left, Democratic, Secular Co-ordination Committee constituted by CPI, CPI (M), RSP, All India Forward Bloc and JD (U) .
As a part of the agitation, a protest sitting was staged today at the ground of Khurai Rising Athletic Union today.

It is reported that the protest sitting was earlier planned at Keishampat junction but it was shifted to Khurai in Imphal East following sudden promulgation of Section of 144 of CrPC in Imphal West district.
The protestors comprising of Left party leaders and supporters used placards and festoons which read as "Conduct repoll in 16 polling stations of Andro and Thoubal A/Cs", "Don't defile democracy", "Conduct repoll for polling stations where votes were cast forcibly", "We condemn deploying VDFs in hyper-sensitive polling stations" etc.
Addressing a public meeting at the protest site, CPI candidate Dr Moirangthem Nara asserted that some pseudo-politicians who joined politics to earn big money have degraded democracy.
Use of force and other unconstitutional means have been continuing for the last many years, Dr Nara observed that failure to hold elections in free and fair manner has been one major factor contributing to the ever-raising crime rate as well as to the soaring level of corruption.
Claiming that the activities being taken by the Left Democratic, Secular Coordination Committee to tackle all these issues are right and quite opportune, Dr Nara said that public ought to support the Left parties in their movement.
Deployment of baton wielding VDF personnel in hyper-sensitive polling stations as against the security deployment chart specified by the relevant authority only exposed the conspiracy to subdue the election process and to forfeit the franchise of a number of citizens, he remarked.
Asserting that there were broad malpractices in 16 polling stations under Andro, Thoubal, Patsoi and Khundrakpam, Dr Nara called for a repoll at these polling stations.
A team of Left party leaders will be leaving for Delhi tomorrow to pursue the matter with the Election Commission of India so that repoll in held in the 16 polling stations where the right to vote of many citizens were forfeited under a conspiracy, the CPI candidate said.
As soon as the team which will also include co-convenor of the Left, Democratic, Secular Coordination Committee Kshetrimayum Shanta reach Delhi, they will hold a meeting with CPI leader AB Bardhan and other Left party leaders before lodging a complaint at the Election Commission of India, Dr Nara said.
On the second day of the agitation, a mass rally will be taken out in Andro A/C tomorrow.
