HSLC 2014 Exam pass percentage drops : Nirmalabas sweep top honours

Imphal, May 15 2014 : Nirmalabas school, MG Avenue, Imphal made a clean sweep of the top three positions as High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination result declared today showed a marginal drop in the overall success rate at 68 percent compared to pass percentage of 72, 70 and 71 in previous three examinations.

The poorest showing in HSLC examinations in the last 10 years was pass percentage of 39 recorded in 2005 .

Male candidates, however, fared better than their female counterparts with 73 boys scaling the examination and girls' success rate remaining at 67 percent this year.

Nirmalabas School's Sarangthem Sharliza Annoly d/o S Manihar Meitei and Sachikumari Huidrombi of Mongsangei Boroi Makhong emerged as the brightest student culling 474 marks out of 500 with letter marks in six subjects.

Her classmates Linthoibi soram d/o Soram Ingocha and Sunita Devi of Uripok Haorungbam Leikai Kombirei Keithel, near RIMS Gate and Luhiya Ngangbam d/o Ngangbam Kamal Kumar and Bilasini Devi of Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai occupied the second and third spots with respective scores of 471 and 469 marks each as well as letter mark achievement in six subjects.

While Tiny Tots' Unique School duo Chandam Bidyarani and Zenith Tongbram scored 468 and 467 marks to secure the fourth and fifth position respectively, the top trio's classmate Neera Sinam was placed in sixth position with 464 marks.

The seventh spot was shared by Sujata Konjengbam of Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang and Elangbam Shitaljit singh of Royal Academy of Advance Learning, Top Siphai at 462 marks each as Leimathoi Nongmaithem scored 461 marks to elevate Little Flower School to the eighth position.

The ninth position was split among Loitongbam Bidyasagar Singh (Sanatombi Oriental English School, Kumbi), Konthoujam Malemnganbi Chanu (Sacred Heart School, Yairipok), Teniza Wairokpam (Nirmalabas School), Triveni Wahengbam (Regular English High School, Kwakeithel), Ningthoujam Illish (Don Bosco High School), Khoneesh Ningthoujam (Tiny Tots' Unique School) and Harison Yumnam (st Joseph's School, Sangaiprou) with identical scores of 460 marks.

YS Sochuiwon Priscilla Khapai of Nirmalabas School was the lone candidate to round off the top 10 ranking with 459 marks.

While 62 students achieved top 25 position finishes all the success candidates, except of two, are from private educational institutions with majority of the schools located in and around the capital districts.

The successful candidates from Government-run Wangkhei High School are Thingom Shayaluxmi Devi, who was ranked 17th with 452 marks and Katherine Yumnam (20th) with 449 marks.

Nirmalabas School also have the highest number of students in the top 25 bracket at nine with six each from Catholic School, Canchipur and Tiny Tots' Unique School making the up number followed by St Joseph, Canchipur producing five meritorious students.

The top-25 ranking also has four students each from Little Flower School and Padma Ratna English School, Kakching.

The examination had tested the cerebral capacity and academic perseverance of 33,876 students out of whom maximum of 12,896 candidates passed in the second division with first divisioners making up 8786 of the total figure.

The total figure of candidates that appeared in this year's examination was the second highest in 10 years with the highest of 18819 enrolled for the 2011 examination.
