Imphal, December 06 2019:
Chief Minister N Biren has reasserted that the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) would not affect Manipur in any manner.
Briefing media persons this afternoon at Imphal airport on his return after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah together with CSOs and representatives of some political parties, Biren claimed that Amit Shah talked about two/three mechanisms which would protect Manipur from CAB.
People should not be apprehensive about CAB now as the Centre is considering different options to protect indigenous people of the State.

The Union Home Minister talked about re-introduction of the Pass and Permit System which was abolished from the State by an executive order in 1950 or Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) which is currently implemented in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland should be extended to Manipur, Biren conveyed.
The Chief Minister maintained that the Union Home Minister would inform the details of the arrangement to public when the time and situation is right at a proper forum.
He said that MANPAC leaders and representatives from some prominent political parties along with State Government representatives met the Union Home Minister on December 3 midnight.
During the meeting, Amit Shah once again assured the State delegates that a mechanism would be brought into effect while passing CAB in order to uphold the interest of the people of the North East region.
"I met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday.
He also assured that CAB would not be passed until a mechanism is put in place to protect the entire North East region including Manipur", conveyed the Chief Minister.
"On the strength of the assurances given by the Union Home Minister and the Union Defence Minister, I can proudly tell the people that CAB would not affect Manipur", he continued.
While conveying gratitude to both Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, Biren went on to claim that there is no one except the Narendra Modi Government which would take care of Manipur and the North East.
To a query, Biren stated that he has learnt about the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi together with his Japanese counterpart to the State on December 17 .
He said that he came back to Imphal today to hold a review meeting about the high profile visit.
The Chief Minister arrived in an Air Asia flight at around 1.30 pm from New Delhi.
