The Predicament of a Lover
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
In the afternoon sunshine
The sky spreads its blue wings;
The vastness engulfs me
And this is my tragedy.
In the evening
Thousands of stars twinkle,
And twinkle with wonder.
I wash and change
And look at myself in the mirror
Before going to bed.
Does it reflect you?
I doubt it.
I see the face of a man
And the face is the mirror of his soul
Lost and crying for his place in the cosmos.
And this is my tragedy.
I do not live alone
But I often feel lonely.
And this is my tragedy.
Last night I dreamt
And in my dream
I was standing alone,
The silence and emptiness of the place
Somehow did not disturb me;
Gradually, my dream was resonant with
Images, desires, memories and echoes,
And the silence and emptiness before me
Merged into an assembled multitude.
Ah, there she was!
A figure silhouetted against the morning light.
I wake to a bright morning,
My crucified love comes to life
But for a moment
Before it dies a natural death.
And this also is my tragedy.
