A Carnival Atmosphere
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
(1)
The clock has suddenly struck midnight;
I can hear the sound of revelry nearby -
New Year revelries.
I look at my watch
My watch worn on my thin wasted wrist.
Slow?
Is it slow?
Maybe the clock is fast.
All I know is
The two -
The neighbourhood clock and my watch have
A quarrel over time
Over New Year.
No doubt in time I live
And in time I will be no more.
Terminally ill I am
My doctor has put me on
A course of life saving drugs
Or LSD;
New Year has not spread to the lungs,
The cancer has.
New Year does not live long.
It just visits.
Only prostitutes smile a long smile.
(2)
The honeymooner in the hills.
New Year in the hills
And during the honeymoon period.
The new sun rises in the east
And New Year is highly sexed;
The hills is dancing around excitedly
And is pregnant with meanings.
Life is certainly beautiful.
I hope I have a great future
Ahead of me.
At the moment I am simply awestruck
By the deceptive beauty of life.
