'Why Impose War on Us'

Fourteen months into the ongoing violence in Manipur, despite the presence of 40,000 to 50,000 central forces including the Army, Assam Rifles, and other paramilitary forces, the situation remains dire. The violence, which began on May 3, 2023, started and being perpetuated by migrant Chin-Kuki terrorists.
On June 18, Union Home Minister took a high-level security meeting on Manipur, notably without the presence of the Manipur Chief Minister. According to reports, the Centre has decided to deploy additional troops to Manipur.
The root cause of this unrest is the violent campaign by the migrant Chin-Kuki terrorists, aimed at creating a divide between the migrant Chin-Kuki community and the indigenous people, especially the Meetei tribe. Their objective is to force the Centre into granting them a separate administration. This has resulted in targeted violence aimed at cleansing the Meetei from their dominant areas.
It is deeply concerning that despite the heavy presence of Assam Rifles and the Army, these terrorists continue to launch attacks against the Meetei. This raises questions about the Centre's policies, which seem to be engaging with these terrorists, potentially for broader geopolitical reasons in South East Asia.
The Centre's apparent compromise with the lives of its citizens in Manipur is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately.
Therefore, WMC urgently calls upon the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji to take decisive action to halt these attacks on the indigenous Meetei tribe. We firmly believe that the Hon'ble PM has the power to stop this violence within 24 hours.
