Global Manipur Federation (GMF) extends warm greetings to all the communities of Manipur for a peaceful and prosperous 2024. Also, GMF would like to share our heartfelt condolences to the victims and wish speedy recovery for those injured people of the Lilong Chingjao incident.
The violent environment that emerged in Manipur in the month of May last year has demanded the people to be more resilient and even be more determined to retain the idea of Manipur, and to defend the symbiotic integrity of Manipur.
Unfortunately, the far-reaching impact of the violence and violation have severely affected every section of the society and concerning the economic, social and political dimension, and now the repercussions
of which are not confined to certain ethnic communities.
At this challenging point in our history, we believe that peace and reconciliation among all the communities is the only way forward to bring a long lasting harmonious and peaceful co-existence. Sometimes, we all need to practice better patience and be more mindful to restrain from the knee-jerk responses by checking ourselves with second thought towards a meaningful engagement and a durable outcome.
Regarding the happening in our motherland now, GMF sees justice as a crucial and fundamental element. We would like to remark justice as the correct and rightful treatment guaranteed to the affected people
and work for the well-being of all the communities by respecting the human rights namely life, liberty, equality and dignity.
With a restorative justice approach that that be mindful towards the repairing the harm and violence done to the victims. In doing so, it is to ensure that the offenders and the authorities take responsibilities for their actions, to understand the harm that have happened, to have an opportunity to redeem themselves, and to discourage them from causing further harm.
For the victims, the goal is to give them an active role in the process, and to reduce feelings of anxiety and powerlessness.
We, the Global Manipur Federation, would like to appeal to all elected representatives of Manipur Legislative Assembly to try more and to work together with the people by initiating steps towards reconciliatory efforts and confidence building measures for long-term and short-term benefits.
We would like to appeal to the Government of Manipur and New Delhi to provide adequate relief measures to all the internally displaced persons who are currently staying at numerous relief camps and to work even harder to repatriate them back to their original home towns and villages where they belong;
Addressing the needs of those affected is crucial for stabilizing the situation and fostering a sense of normalcy which will lead to long-term stability and recovery for the affected communities.
Further, it is necessary to end the prolonged failure to provide safeguard to the national highways synonymous to the life-lines of Manipur by implementing the order of the honourable Supreme Court of India.
We appeal to the authorities again to implement rapid identification procedures for illegal immigrants in Manipur and enhance governance transparency ensuring the security and well-being of the region. In addition to this, rollback of Kangpokpi district, and reorganisation of districts’ boundaries need to be considered.
We are also hopeful that we the people of Manipur become more tactful in engaging with mutual respect, better coordination, cooperation and responsive communication
May the new year come with justice and bring a durable peace and progressive future for Manipur.
