Tight security at Upper Merapani
Times of India | Sep 1, 2011, 07.16AM IST
Theirs is no let-up in atrocities on Assamese people staying in Upper Merapani by miscreants from Nagaland. As a result, more than 100 families in the area situated along the Assam-Nagaland border are passing sleepless nights and many have shifted their place of stay following repeated threats.
''We are staying in a rented house at Merapani town after my house was burnt down by the Nagas. More than 15 families of our locality are currently staying here due to the atrocities on them. My neighbours left behind their houses and property and the Nagas have occupied all those. The other 132 families of our villages have also been passing sleepless nights as they have been threatened by Naga miscreants to vacate their land for them," said Miraj Ali, a resident of Upper Merapani whose house was burnt down on August 18.
