Three dead, over 20 injured.

Not the first time and nothing to suggest that such an abominable act will not be repeated.

A common pattern in all cases of bomb blasts in the State can be summed up in one line.

Inflict as much damages as possible. In other words kill as many as possible.

The place where the bomb was planted or lobbed, the timing and everything else suggest this.

Not exactly clear on who or which group was behind the blast and more than likely that it will remain a mystery until and unless the bombers come under the belief that it would yield them better dividends to claim responsibility and then cook up some reasons to justify the dastardly act.

Some elements are surely taking advantage of the conflict situation to pursue their own selfish agenda and probably the Government too will fall back on this for the utter failure to put a check on the activities of such trouble makers.

Trying to drill sense into the heads of such elements will be like water running off the back of a duck but this should be no reason for the people to keep on taking things so casually.

One day after the blast and there was nothing much to suggest that a powerful bomb had ripped apart the commercial of Imphal.

Markets remaining closed and a protest march or two do not exactly match the gravity of the bomb blast, which was bestial.

The seeming indifference has to go. Time for the people to raise their voice against the culture of violence. No longer the time for selective protests.

Definitely, there is no sure shot antidote against terrorism and this makes it all that more important for the people to raise their voice against acts of terror.

And the bomb blast on March 11 at Khwairamband Keithel had all the hallmarks of terrorism at its crudest form.

The law enforcing agencies too need to be jolted awake and made to admit the fact that dispensing their duties is not throwing their weight around.

There may be no foolproof formula against such acts of terror, but it is disturbing to note that the law enforcing agencies have at most times failed to crack the numerous cases of bomb blasts in the heart of Imphal city.

Even as this piece is being jotted down, there is nothing to suggest that the Government is anywhere near cracking the numerous cases of bomb blasts that have ripped apart Imphal and other places in the State.

An ineffective Government makes the job of such desperadoes all that easier.

A shame that Manipur has today become a killing field, a place where bombs and bullets abound.

The body bags will keep on piling up and in as much as everyone may be against such acts of terror, it is the silence of the people which will encourage such a culture to take firm roots.
