Striking against corruption

Although Corruption has prevailed since the dawn of human civilization, it has become deep-rooted in India today.

It will be very hard to erase corruption totally as the fight against corruption is never easy and will never be. However, we cannot just remain idle and sit back watching corruption overpowering us, our families, our children and our friends.

Something solid has to be done in this regard. The government as well as all those concerned agencies or officials should share equal responsibility in trying to curb the menace of corruption.

As Karl Kraus, an Australian Writer and Journalist, had rightly put in - "Corruption is worse than prostitution. The latter might endanger the morals of an individual; the former invariably endangers the morals of the entire country", the entire nation is at threat with corruption gradually crossing in through every sphere of our life.

People of the State, more particularly, the CSOs are in high spirit while talking about influx of illegal migrants to the state.

People talk about this very issue and even launch various agitations to press their demands. But we have never in a thousand times seriously discussed the issue of rampant corruption in our society today.

This does not necessarily mean that the issue being taken up at present by certain CSOs of the State is not worthy of being highlighted, but what is missing is that sense of taking into serious consideration the issue of corruption as should have been taken in any part of the country.

The newly elected President of BJP, Manipur State Unit, Thounaojam Chaoba, soon after assuming the charge, immediately announced to the media that his first and foremost task as the President of BJP State unit would be to launch a series of agitations to strike against corruption in the State in consultation with experts and take the message to every household in the State.

This is indeed a tall promise and only time will tell whether Chaoba, who is also a former Union Minister is able to translate the promise into reality or not.

Because people in Manipur have heard many tall promises made by politicians in the past, and in fact they are tired of hearing such promises which are never meant for keeping.

Having said that, we should keep in mind that, though it may not be an easy fight, every individual in the society should look upon it as their moral responsibility and duty to strike against corruption.

Youths, who are the pillars of the society, should play a leading role in the fight against corruption.

We should never forget that apart from other duties as citizens, the duty of youths is to challenge corruption.

The sole objective of fighting against corruption should not be left to the policy makers, leaders and politicians of the State alone since they are the ones who are already neck-deep in corruption. They are the ones who are betraying the people in whatever way they could.

We, as public, should stand up against such corrupt practices and try striking at them at least once.
