E-Pao! Opinions - Smoke on the Surface

Smoke on the Surface
By: loyA maisnaM *

Scores of weeks ago, the smoke of the conflict torn state still film on the surface - a memorable bombardment against the custodial killing of Thangjam Manorama devi and for the removal of Armed Forces Special Power Act-1958 from the state. We have seen across the nation, the voices for the human dignity and against the black laws existing in the state, Manipur. We have also seen that the decades old militarized state has come to a stage of trauma in every people of the state, since this remained as the worse obstacle in every section of the development and advancement of the civil society. Somehow, we have had an inevitable unknown experienced, which we couldn't speak loud in reality.

It's indeed a kind of psychological gift of war, endowed by the imperial doctrine. We are mindful that only yesterday the centre was in throne looking complacently whilst the state was in turmoil, and came to resettled only after the blood and tears during the Indo-Naga cease-fire extension in Manipur in 2001 AD. It was only yesterday the center kept many promissory ice-cube commitments without even giving the diversions of the melted waters. We are yet mindful that the center always deemed the people of the region as brother and sisters.

However, we can trace back the center's bi-vocal, in Godhra incident, Gujarat riot, Babri Masjid demolition, and on many others. Nevertheless, the people of the region have almost conscious of center's irresponsible stances and commitments by pronouncing our peoples as brother and sisters. We can see how the center differentiated the North East and the rest of the India. And we can see that it's a kind of spinning bias, which is a hard to track down, and in fact leave only a paradox.

So that's also comes a big reason for the imposition of untoward black laws in the state legitimately, as center do really knew that we have lot of rational potentials which could incline up to the international dais. Here, AFSPA-1958 is also an acute remedy drugs to neutralize the growth of potential region. The strike still runs through the rolling world. Everything is supposed to be settled soon paradoxically after a long nights of blood and tears. But the smoke still film on the surface.

Law enforcing, security uploading in the name of dismantling insurgency in the state has threatened the life of the civil society. The banner of counter insurgency and dismantling insurgents has never faded though the wind of change has blown for more than forty years in the state. But yet we can't deny a kind of trauma and a fearful mindset, which is already tranquilized the society without drug is almost brought so far through the wind. Intolerable black laws (typically//black laws=draconian laws) in the state had bound the people without giving any chance to live beneath the fundamental rights, indeed what we called today as Human Rights.

It's better an unforgettable words for the state, the French's well known quotation "men are born free but everywhere he is chain". The quotation is quite chilled and mindful that, Rousseau thematically quote the words after he knew the impact of industrial revolution would cost a severe outcome, as the time in French was in civil war situation, but for Manipur, it's already adulterated the burden of black laws even to the unborn child. We are very unfortunate ultimately that we were born not freely but we were born with the black laws surrounded by the fog of bullets.

Fearful mindset and insecure have almost crippled the adolescent classes and merely to every people of the state, since we were born where there is statutorily declared as "disturbed area", only to promote and access the bullets of black laws. So, "men are born with the black laws and everywhere he is in chain". We have come to many stages through the wind of change, to many platforms via black laws, to many arenas by breaking the path of chains, and even made challenges with the rest of the nations in some definite areas, but the smoke still film on the surface.

Shall we able to stay calm and cool, when there is still laid down only with the forcibly nose feeding, our woman of substance, Sharmila, who fought an endless hunger strike till death. It's been almost four years, her silent voices never resist by the rational and just world, despite the authority do not take any initiative even though if she died by the strike. May be a large internal fratricidal war that will only direct by the polity of the Govt. could occur in a nearest future. This is the way he wants because he can deploy more security on one hand and he could play a more politicizing stance on the other hand. Now we are lamenting on the surface of the tiny land without any nurse, to whom we could share our injured society. We are just wept beneath the black laws and all, and it still runs through the spinning time. But the smoke still film on the surface.

It was only yesterday, the 15th August, the independence day of our great nation, India. Billion of peoples were with the high hopes as India is turning into a new world of brotherhood. Hundred of colors have showered with ecstasy of joy leaving to the peoples a new scenario of love and bonding, but yet, we couldn't taste how the rest of people enjoy on 15th August, we would have been to the august celebration if the center have had enhanced our people and the land on a status of his own children. We are yet mindful that Pebam Chitarranjan, an adviser of students' organization of Manipur self immolated on the day of India's independence, 15th August, with a deed of his immolation as "a human torch", he died by breaking the barriers of inhuman bullets led to a new trend of sacrificing instinct democratically in the people of the state, in fact he was a pioneer.

He denied to die by the brutal bullets of the Indian paramilitary forces and state forces. Died after a few hours of nurse in the hospital. He selflessly immolated himself leaving a long four pages deed, as in the first line he stated, "at first, I beg all the loving people of the region, who are living with the sorrows___ oh! Tireless mother, thee fought for the slaves which are in chain, thee fought tirelessly for thy murdered sons, thee art the mother of hills and valley, I pray to thee to able to die with bliss for thou and for the future". He again quoted that "it's better to die by self than the inhuman bullets of the black laws".

Score of years ago, decades of years has gone with the lamentation and sorrows, many youth have been died, many mothers have been fractured, many women have been humiliated, many fathers have been living under the dictates of martial power, and everything turned nothing and lawlessness is our kind endowment for the people by the Govt. We do not know what democracy really stands for, but what we knew is Military Junta in a largest democratic nation of the world.

We are just wept again only for a justice and liberty. The nature never tried to dramatized the land of ethnic cognates by endowing the calamities, drought, famine and all these kind of vast turmoil, hats off to the land of pretty and scenic beauty. We are far beyond the expectation of a new life style besides the imperial detentions and political annexation. We are human too, how shall we able to decline the offered of rational world.

Here, everything accomplishes with the chain of ambiguity and paradox, but the smoke still film on the surface.
