Observance of National Sports Day 2021 - Cycle Rally
Fit India Campaign Committee, and Fit India Club, Manipur University, Canchipur has organised "Observance of National Sports Day 2021 and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav – Cycle Rally 2021" on 29th August 2020 at 7:30 A.M. at the Traffic Point, MU, Canchipur in pursuance of Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of India, New Delhi with Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Prof. Dr. Sanjib Singh Nepram, Bicycle Mayor and HoD, Plastic Surgery, RIMS, Imphal, Dr. L. Bishwanath Sharma, Chairman, Fit India Club and Dean, Students' Welfare, Manipur University and Prof. K. Yugindro Singh, Chairman, Fit India Campaign Committee and Dean, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Manipur University, gracing the function as Chief Guest, Guests of honour and Presidents respectively.
Total number of 250 cyclists of the state has participated including 'Doctors on Padel' and a team of cyclists from 'Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA)' under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sanjib Singh Nepram, Bicycle Mayor and HoD, Plastic Surgery, RIMS, Imphal took part in the Cycle Rally as a part of Fit India Movement.
At the beginning of the observance programme, a floral tribute has been given to the Hockey Legend, Major Diyan Chand as National Sports Day is being observed on his birth day. As a part of the observance of the National Sports Day, a cycle rally within the University Cmpus has been organised with Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon'ble Vice – Chancellor, Manipur Univesity, Canchipur himself taking part.
Along with the observance of the National Sports Day, Manipur University has observed 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav', with a Cycle Rally which has been flagged off by Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Canchipur from Manipur University gate up to Maibam Lotpa Ching, Imphal Peace Museum, Nambol as the destination of the Rally.
Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, convenor, FICC and FIC, MU, Canchipur has welcomed all the respected dignitaries and invitees. He highlighted the theme and importance of observing National Sports Day and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsave, Cycle rally 2021.

Dr. L. Bishwanath Sharm, Chairman, Fit India Club and Dean, Students' Welfare, Manipur University, Canchipur has delivered the key note address for the programme. He expressed that Observation of National Sports Day will certainly enhance the spirit of sportsmanship in our country and the role of sportsmen in daily life in the present world has been appreciated with the remembrance of Major Diyan Chand as an exemplary sportsman in the country. He also delivered that Cycling combines physical exercise with being outdoors and exploring new views. Cycling can improve human immune system, burn the calories and qualities of sleep.
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon'bleVice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Canchipur as Chief Guest of the programme expressed the importance of keeping fit both the body and mind in our lives. He also emphasised that in order to save the loss of time in visiting hospitals and health expenditures incurred, one should invest in the fitness of body and mind.
Further, he expressed that regular physical activity can help protect from serious diseases such as obesity, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, diabetes and arthritis. Riding the bicycle regularly is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle. Cycling can improve both physical and mental health consciousness, and can reduce the chances of experiencing many health problems. He also mentioned that cycling is a good way to control or reduce weight, as it raises the metabolic rate, builds muscle and burns body fat.
Dr. Ksh. Ranjan Singh, member, Fit India Club, Manipur University, proposed the vote of thanks to the participants, MAAMBA, Doctors on Padel, Director of Imphal Peace Museum at the Maibam Lotpa Ching, Indian Peace Memorial, Nambol, Life Care Ambulance and Department of Transport, Government of Manipur and others for their support and necessary helps in the smooth conducting of the programme.
