Under the guidelines of the National Legal Services Authority, the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organized the third National Lok Adalat for the year, 2019 on Saturday, the 14th September, 2019 at Lamphel Court Complex for Imphal East & Imphal West districts. Various pending cases before the courts as well as pre-litigation matters are taken up in the said National Lok Adalat for amicable settlement.

National Lok Adalat is also organized at Thoubal, Bishnupur, Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur, Chandel, Tengnoupal & Jiribam districts by the concerned District Legal Services Authorities.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kh. Nobin Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Executive Chairman of Manipur State Legal Services Authority visited the National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court and Bishnupur Court Complexes along with the Officials of Manipur State Legal Services Authority.

Altogether 558 cases are settled in the said National Lok Adalat held today with total settlement amount of Rs. 2,41,55,544/- (Rupees two crores forty-one lakhs fifty-five thousand five hundred and forty-four) only.

Out of which 541 are pre-litigation matters comprises of bank recovery matters, BSNL Telephone & Mobile Phone bill matters, water bill matters and 17 cases are pending before the Courts comprising of Criminal compoundable cases, Civil cases, Family Court cases, Insurance Claim cases, Negotiable Instrument Act cases etc.

Lok Adalat ensures speedy disposal of cases by amicable settlement between the parties. It saves valuable time of the parties and their witnesses and also facilitates inexpensive and prompt remedy to the satisfaction of both the parties. Lok Adalat not only helps in reduction in the pendency of cases in the courts but also provide respite to litigants from long drawn out litigation.

Media played a valuable role in spreading information, awareness and attracting people to settle their disputes through Lok Adalat and the same is highly appreciated. It is also hoped that media shall continue to render such services in future also.
