Mr. Alek Muivah, Member Secretary, MASLSA appealed to the public at large that cases can be settled not only before the Courts but also through alternate means like Lok Adalat and Mediation. The decree passed in the Lok Adalat are akin to decree passed by any civil court and they are final and no appeal lies before any other courts except for misrepresentation or frauds.
It is further stated that all cases can be listed before the Lok Adalat except those non-compoundable criminal cases. Further, Lok Adalat proceedings does not charge any court fee or commission. Rather, if any pending court cases are settled through Lok Adalat, the court fees paid to the concerned court will be refunded.
As Lok Adalat is also called as People’s Court, the settlement that arrive during the Lok Adalat proceeding is only through mutual agreement between the parties. The role of the members in the proceeding is only to facilitate and sometime to make the party aware of the pros and cons of contesting a case before the Courts.
It is further informed that the next Lok Adalat will be held on 11th May 2024 and appealed to all those parties who desires to settle their cases to approach any court for listing their cases.
The office of the MASLSA humbly request all the News and Print Media to kindly give wide dissemination of Lok Adalat so that more people may avail the opportunity for resolving their dispute through this Alternative Dispute Resolution i.e. Lok Adalat.
