More than a three hour test : First stepping stone to future

It is more than a three hour test. In many ways this may perhaps be seen as the first stepping stone to the future of the young students.

Hence the extreme importance attached to the three hour test, which is the Class X board exams.

Today thousands of students will be ready to give their Class X examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and the Central Board of Secondary Education.

It is obviously not the test for life, but in many ways this exam can be the harbinger for the future of the young students.

The question is how well prepared are the students.

There will be debates on whether it is fair or justified to test the knowledge of a child in the three hour test, but in the absence of other means, this will be the yardstick for the moment.

Apart from the question of how well prepared are the young students for the exam, another very important question is whether the right ambience has been created for the young students to concentrate on their academics.

This is important for the quality of the young students is a reflection of society as a whole and the future of society as a whole will depend largely on how well the young students are prepared, not just for the exams, but also for life.

Competition, this is the catchword today and competition should not be seen only within the State of Manipur but across the world.

Are the young students primed to compete with the others ?

There is a reason why the world is today known as a global village and this in other word also means that competition will get tougher with each passing year.

Creating the right ambience for the young students is then the collective responsibility of everyone.

The Government may come up with policies and programmes but it is important that everyone chips in to ensure that the young students are given the opportunity to reap the dividends of the policies and programmes spelt out by the Government.

This is where everyone should ask themselves why thousands of students are forced to go outside the State to pursue their studies after Class XII.

A reflection that the atmosphere here is just not conducive for the young students and this is a shame.

Apart from giving their best, the young students too need to question why they have the need to go outside and pursue their higher studies.
