Kuki eBible : All But A Hoax

Following several advertisements by Rev Dr. T. Lunkim, Administrative Secretary, Kuki Christian Church (KCC) in various media for release of Kuki eBible, with a claim that permission has been given by the Bible Society of India (BSI), the Thadou Students' Association (TSA), which is the student's body of the Thadou Tribe Council (TTC) has investigated the matter with the BSI.

As a result of the investigation, it has been confirmed by the BSI via email dated 30th September 2013 that no permission has been given regarding the matter (please refer to the attached document for evidence). Believe it or not, the fact of the matter, as is evident from the BSI's email, is that this whole scheme of Kuki e-Bible smacked of dishonesty, deception and illegal practices, which are all essentially most unchristian.

The whole scheme is probably one of the greatest hoaxes of all time and that too in the name of the Holy Bible. The scheme maligns the holiness of the Holy Bible as it contradicts the very fundamental teachings of the Bible and is against the sentiment of not only Kuki people but any right thinking person.

This has disgraced many Christians, particularly Kuki Christians, all over the world who are aware of the scheme as it is fundamentally unchristian, unethical, dishonest, divisive, illegal and most unbecoming of a religious leader. It bears testimony to how distasteful Dr. Lunkim's behaviours and ideas in reality are as far as the issue of language and tribe within the Kuki community is concerned.

The TTC GHQ would like to appeal Dr T. Lunkim to gracefully shun the misleading and disintegrative scheme to launch Kuki eBible once and for all, but to rename it 'Thadou-Kuki eBible' in honouring the latest court verdict of the 3rd February 1995 which settled the controversial issue over 'Thadou' or 'Kuki' language.

Not only is the TTC prepared to appreciate Dr. Lunkim but also to celebrate it with him if he renames it correctly. This appeal is made in the greater interest of Kuki public and in honouring Christian values and principles or the teaching of the Bible, which the scheme purports to convey to the people.

The TSA has previously made similar appeals through the media in this regard. The TTC is also prepared to sit down with Dr Lunkim and discuss with an aim to resolve the issue and hence extend in good faith an invitation to Dr Lunkim for a sincere discussion.

However, should Dr. Lunkim choose to disgracefully launch his scheme of Kuki eBible, ignoring all appeals made, the TTC will have no option but resort to all possible democratic, lawful or legal means to stop it. And in the event that there is any untoward incident due to the scheme, no one else but Dr. Lunkim and his cohorts will be held solely responsible.

The TTC would like to reiterate its steadfast position that Kuki is not a language nor a tribe, but the collective name of all Kuki tribes and therefore should not be referred to as otherwise.

Also, if at all there should be a Kuki common language, it needs to either be evolving or through a consensus, and thus the need to maintain status-quo in order to restore and preserve Kuki integrity is of paramount importance.
