Kshetrimayum Indira Devi (@Chirom Indira) from Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai, Imphal was honoured with the prestigious award of ‘‘Women Transforming India Award 2018'' by NITI Aayog and United Nations India. The award was conferred by Hon'ble Vice-President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu on the occasion of 3rd edition of the Women Transforming India Awards 2018 which was held on 16th December, 2018 at Pravasi Bharatia Kendra, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Hon'ble Vice-President of India has also launched Women Entrepreneurship Platform 2.0 on the occasion.

This year theme is ''Women and Entrepreneurship''. Altogether 15 winners across the country has been selected through an extensive six-month long process to identify fascinating and inspiring stories of women entrepreneurs who are breaking new ground by empowering themselves and others. The nominations for the third edition of the Women Transforming India Awards were opened on March 8, 2018 on the occasion of International Women's Day by Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and Yuri Afanasiev, UN Resident Coordinator in India.

On the speech of the NITI Aayog CEO Shri Amitabh Kant said, ''Our goal with NITI Aayog's Women Entrepreneurship Platform is to disrupt the status quo, & work towards the fulfilment of UN's #SDG 5, which aims to achieve gender equality & empower all women and girls''. The Vice-President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu congratulates all the awardees and NITI Aayog for creating Women Entrepreneurship Platform 2.0. ''NITI Aayog has always placed gender equality at the centre of it's policy decisions. The Women Entrepreneurship Platform will help to realise the dreams of Women Entrepreneurs across India'' said Hon'ble Vice-President of India.

Kshetrimayum Indira Devi (@Chirom Indira) is a Woman Entrepreneur, Designer, Exporter, and Social Worker. Born in Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong, Imphal West, Manipur. Being the eldest of six siblings, she had a sense of responsibility from her early age. She is a Graduate in political science and has a professional qualification Diploma in Handloom Technology from IIHT, Guwahati.

As a woman entrepreneur, she always believed that communal harmony is key to social development in multi ethnic society like Manipur and North Eastern region of India. Empowering and embedding self-esteem into women is her life's biggest mission. She is also a strong supporter for women empowerment. She started her career with working in GOENKA woollen mills ltd., Guwahati in the year 1994. (where she started with her professional qualification).

Development of a diversified Manipuri Handloom product ''TALIT'' in the year 2004 with the help of Weavers Service Centre (WSC), Imphal, Ministry of Textiles for an Israel Buyer become a game changer for her as it opened up the path for international reach of a humble product. Weavers weaving with advance technique were not easily available in Manipur at that time. From here, she started her turning point from professional life to entrepreneur.

She has never been one to rest on her laurels. She has always looked ahead, towards newer challenges. Her natural instincts and foresight have always led her to the next frontier. She performed silently and continues to let her works talk for them. She is one of the very few people who are not money driven in their cause but work round the clock to bring about a change of socio-economic conditions of the weaker sections of the region. She has always maintained a very positive and friendly attitude towards all the section of peoples. She loves people, works hard and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. She has a keen interest in paying it back to the society by doing something for its welfare. The best thing about Indira is her utmost simplicity.

Her creations were displayed in various National & International exhibitions organized at different places in India. She has visited in Denmark, Greece, German, Belgium, Netherland, U.K, Austria, France and Myanmar for business promotion. She was member in various committees under O/o DC Handlooms, MoT. At present, she is member of ''ALL INDIA HANDLOOM BOARD''.

The enthusiasm with which she has been promoting the handloom sector of the Northeast region, she has achieved great recognition and we hope that in future, the Northeast will be able to exploit its potentials and make a name for itself all over the world. Under the label of Chanu Creations, she has trained RPL skill training to more than 16,000 women weavers in entire NE States of India under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The efforts of her hard work bring smiles to thousands of women weavers and moving towards the fruitfulness tomorrow's generation with a new identity.

She has also trained about 400 Nos. of SC and OBC candidates under NSFDC and NBCFDC in collaboration with TSC in Assam, Tripura and Manipur respectively. Her effort has not only given shape to her dreams but has also paved the way for other girls. Activities such as social works, women empowerment and working for the development of socio-economic condition of the weavers were always close to her heart. Empowering and embedding self-esteem into women is her life's biggest mission.

She was featured in ''PRAYAS'' a compilation of success stories on Handlooms published by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of 1st National Handloom Day held at Chennai on 7th August, 2015. She was honoured with ''National Award 2015'' in Design Development of Handloom Products (become the first Indian recipient) honoured by Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles on the occasion of 2nd National Handloom Day held at Varanasi on 7th August, 2016, ''Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017'' (Highest Civilian Honour for Women in India) honoured by Hon'ble President of India on the occasion of International Women's Day held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi on 8th March, 2018.

She was also honoured with ''DMA All India Women Entrepreneur Award 2017'' (in Super Achiever Category) honoured by Delhi Management Association (DMA), ''Vasundhara Hall of Fame 2018'' by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati. She is a woman who has consistently strived hard to attain sky height success and still managed to maintain her foot firmly on the ground.
