FAC rejects Tipaimukh (Mizoram) FC application in Mizoram

The Forest Advisory Committee of MoEF, India has again rejected a second application from NHPC/NEEPCO for the diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes in Mizoram State for construction of the Tipaimukh Hydro-Electric Project. Earlier, the FAC had rejected the diversion of huge areas of forest land for this project
"The legal status of the forest land is Reserve Forest...The FAC after deliberations on the issue recommended that since the proposal for the Manipur part of the project, which constitutes the major part of the project has not been recommended by FAC, the present proposal for diversion of 1551.60 Ha may also not be recommended for approval." (Minutes of the FAC Meeting held on 13th and 14th August 2013, Agenda Item No.1)
