Die-hard Spirit

The conquest of the Mount Everest by five young mountaineers from the State has indeed shown to the world the die-hard spirit of the Manipuris.

The State, though inflicted by armed violence coupled with series of bandhs and blockades throughout the year, has never failed to come up on par with other progressive States of the country.

But people from this "troubled state" are not lagging behind their compatriots from the mainland in any way.

They have excelled in every field such sports, academics, theatre, films, art and culture. MC Mary Kom is the pride of the State.

She has indeed proved Manipur as the "Power House of Sports" by winning a bronze medal at London Olympics in women boxing. Besides sports, eminent personalities like Ratan Thiyam and Aribam Shyam Sharma have found their place in the international arena in theatre and films respectively.

Notably, a boy from the State has also secured first position in All India Senior Secondary Examination conducted by CBSE last year.

Their spirit to excel could not be dampened by any force. These achievers should indeed be the beacon light for other people who have been pessimistic about the progress of the State.

The conquest of the Mount Everest should not be viewed just as an achievement in adventure sports. It should instill in the minds of young people that they can reach even to the top of the world against all odds with sheer dedication and hard work.

People should salute the young mountaineers who scaled the summit of world's highest mountain. It is not just their love for trekking, but also their commitment, dedication and hard work that push them up on top of the world.

The right time has come for the stakeholders of the State to ponder upon the issues of progress and development rather getting indulged in unethical politics.

The murkiness in the functioning of State machineries should be removed and they should be streamlined in the implementation of various projects for infrastructural development and social welfare.

The State should acknowledge the potentials of young people and give them ample opportunities to excel in their respective fields.

The die-hard spirit of the Manipuris should not be let down at any cost.

The valour and patriotism shown by Tikendrajit, Paona Brajabasi, Thangal General and Hijam Irabot should not be forgotten by the Manipuris.

People should shed off violence and promote peace and harmony among different communities in the State.

Manipuris are people with high spirit and nothing can stop them from achieving excellence if the State takes the course of a peaceful and progressive path.

Many more Everest conquerors and Olympics medalists will come up and bring laurels to the State.

Finally, let those young achievers help Manipur regain its revered title "Sanaleibak".
