The attackers on trucks and carrying essential commodities must be arrested and punish them according to the rule of law
Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) strongly condemned the cowardice attack and firing on Trucks carrying essential commodities including inflammable goods along the National Highway-37.
We have received the information that today armed Militants attacked the escorted trucks and injured one LPG truck driver at Tollen near Kaimei. It could be noted that such incidents is not mere, it’s happening frequently along the National Highway, wherein the truck driver are being looted, tortured, assaulted, kidnapped, murder and harassed in every possible way for not paying illegal taxes.
It couldn’t be deny that attacking truck drivers and handyman ferrying essential commodities is attacking right to life of the civilians. It could also be observed that the State failed to protect and secure the right to life of its citizens as there is continuous attack and killing of civilians including those frontline workers such as truck drivers, handymen who worked tirelessly by risking their life on dangerous National Highway of Manipur at critical juncture of violent armed conflict in Manipur.
We would like to warn the attackers about the consequences of attacking and hindering the essential services along the Highway. We have witnessed many incidents of attacking, killing of unarmed civilians, contaminating sources of water by armed Militants during this ongoing conflict.
We also would like to ask the State and Central government to secure & protect the life of frontline workers especially the truck drivers and handymen and clear any hindrance or blocking of the National Highway in the best interest of the public. At the same time, the attacker must be arrested and punish them according to the rule of law.
