We are writing to express our profound condemnation of the brutal and inhuman killing of three innocent Meitei villagers. A fourth person has not been found yet and we pray for his safe return home.
These villagers went to the hill areas adjoining the Imphal valley, Manipur, to collect firewood for cooking as they were unable to afford gas cylinders for cooking. Amongst the persons killed, included a father and son.
The individuals responsible for this reprehensible act must be held accountable for their actions. We express our disappointment and concern over the perceived inability of the national and state governments to ensure the safety and security of innocent lives.
It is also reported that there are central paramilitary forces stationed near the area where this heinous crime happened. The governments must take immediate and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice, restore peace, and prevent further loss of life.
The ongoing armed conflict between the Meitei and Chin-Kuki communities raises a critical question: Why, despite the presence of reportedly over 80,000 central paramilitary forces stationed in the state, the Indian government has been unable to bring an end to the violence?
The continuous bloodshed underscores the urgency for a comprehensive assessment of the government's strategies and use all the necessary means to bring the violence to an end.
We urgently request the government to extend immediate and comprehensive support to the grieving families of the deceased, offering not only condolences but also necessary assistance to cope with the emotional and economic aftermath of this tragic incident. We also urge the government to do everything to find the missing person.
We stand in solidarity with the affected families and urge swift and effective actions to bring an end to this devastating communal conflict.
