Imphal Workshop on Health Care Knowledge System for Public Health Awareness & Education

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Kolkata conducted workshop on Health Care Knowledge System at the Mini Auditorium of RIMS, Imphal on November 07 last to highlight the increasing and highly beneficial use of computer and software techniques and knowledge for rendering better health services in the Manipur. The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. S. Sekharjit Singh, Director, RIMS, Officials of the Directorate of Health Services, Govt of Manipur, Medical Superintendent, HODs, Professors, Doctors, WHO Fellows and IT professionals of Imphal. Around hundred professional have participated the event.

Speaking on the occasion Scientist, C-DAC Kolkata, Goutam Kumar Saha said the Concept Maps based Health Care Knowledge system software is available through internet while the software Kiosk has already been installed in major Medical Colleges & Hospitals and Community Health Centres in all the eight North Eastern States including the RIMS-Imphal Medical College, Civil Hospital, Aizawl. The Health Care Knowledge System is also accessible free of cost through the RIMS Imphal website, RIPANS- Aizawl, Directorate of Health Services-Gov of Mizoram, NRHM-Govt of Tripura Website, Silchar Medical College Websites, Agartala Gov Medical College, NEIGRIHMS Medical College-Shillong etc.

Saha added that it is the web-enabled concept map based health care knowledge system that provides organized healthcare knowledge toward quick understanding of disease symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Thousands of pages of medical, healthcare information have been transformed into about 350 pages of semantic networks and concept maps showing important health objects and its relationships. He said such cognitive engineering software product is very new of its kind in India for better and faster knowledge dissemination and understanding. Saha also asserted that people won’t get tired of reading lines of text as found in the web content or e-books with easier navigation among the various complex concept maps.

He also said that through the system, people would meaningfully learn about health care topics such as knowledge about body’s organ systems, vitamins, minerals, cleanliness and symptoms of health problems or diseases and their prevention, diagnosis, treatment and diets etc. C-DAC Kolkata has distributed the software free of cost among all the participants of the Workshop. High officials of Manipur Government have shown keen interest to deploy the CDAC’s Health Care Knowledge System in all districts of Manipur towards controlling the Burden of Diseases in Manipur through this innovative eHealth solution for promoting Public Health Awareness & Education in Manipur.
