Businessman cheated of Rs 8 lakh by two servants
IBN Live | Mumbai, Dec 10 (PTI)
A manhunt has been launched for two servants working with a businessman who escaped with a cheque valued at Rs 8 lakh and got it encashed before fleeing to their native state Manipur, police said today.
The accused, M Jery Stone and A R Shirom, worked in a cosmetics shop belonging to the victim in suburban Santacruz, police said. Stone and Shirom had been employed in the shop started by the businessman, Veerendra Shah, in partnership with his friend Prashant Sonawane some months ago.
They forged Sonawane's signature to make it valid and deposited the same and transferred the cash to one of their bank accounts in Manipur before escaping to their native place, police said. They later withdrew the money. The accused committed the crime between November 1 and 15, police said.
A police team will leave for Manipur soon.
