33RPM - Voices of the Revolution, an album of powerful revolutionary and political music produced by artists from across the globe, is to be digitally released as a free download via Bandcamp on Monday 14 October 2013.

The collection of 33 songs chronicles oppression, uprisings, land rights issues, political and social abuses and acts of revolution drawn directly from the experiences of established and emerging artists representing over 33 countries across 6 continents, and spans Afrofuturismo, Indian folk-rock, soulful New Zealand reggae, Electro Caribe, Malian hip hop and Iranian electronica amongst other diverse styles and genres.

The global music project, led by UK not-for-profit global grassroots organisation Un-Convention, features contributions from the internationally-renowned recording artist, activist and former child soldier Emmanuel Jal (South Sudan), voice of the Arab Spring Omar Offendum (Syria/USA), pioneering Afghan rock band Kabul Dreams (Afghanistan) 'first lady of Arabic hip hop’ Shadia Mansour (UK/Palestine), bandleader and singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi (Tunisia), Medellin and Valle de Aburra hip hop collective Cultura Y Libertad (Colombia), multi-instrumentalist Camila Moreno (Chile) and gritty rapper Jun Tzu (Northern Ireland).

"33RPM is a striking snapshot of places of conflict, war, oppression, resistance and revolution, documented by individuals who are using music as their weapon of choice to express the hopes, fears and desires of their communities. That many of the songs on this album have been produced in countries where music itself is outlawed or regarded as subversive is staggering in itself – 33RPM highlights an ongoing critical need for global platforms where artists working in incredibly challenging situations can make their voices heard." – Jez Collins, Un-Convention

33RPM – Voices of the Revolution is a collaborative project between four independent international grassroots music organizations; Un-Convention (UK), Nomadic Wax (USA), Fora Do Eixo (Brasil) and Tiuna El Fuerte (Venezuela). The project is also supported by the In Place of War research centre at the University of Manchester (UK).

The official launch of 33RPM – Voices of the Revolution featuring a live performance from and conversation with Emmanuel Jal takes place on Sunday 13 October 2013 at the Imperial War Museum Manchester, as part of the Manchester Weekender and IWM’s Catalyst: Contemporary Art and War exhibition.
