19th day MAYOL long March
We need to understand whom are we fighting with – Professor Mc. Arun of Manipur University.
On the 19th day of the MAYOL long march for National Regeneration, Professor Mc. Arun Department of Anthropology of Manipur University emphasized the importance of understanding the enemy of the people of Manipur.
“During the Seven Years Devastation from 1819 to 1826, our ancestors, under Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Nara Singh, knew the enemy and fought against them. During 1891, the leaders of Manipur at that time knew who we were fighting with. However, today, the people of the state seem to be confused about who we are fighting with,” Professor Mc. Arun said during a public meeting held today at Mongsangei SUN club ground of Imphal west district.
The MAYOL volunteers continued their march from Thangmeiband THAU Ground and reached Mongsangei SUN Club after passing through Khuyathong, Nagamapal, WahengLeikai, Keishampat, Keishamthong, Nambul Mapal Road, Haobam Marak, and Heirangoithong.
Professor Mc. Arun astutely pointed fingers at the real enemy of the people, stating that during the devastating period of the Seven Years Devastation, there were nine kings in Manipur who bribed the Awa (Burmese) King and ruled in their favor. The professor Mc. Arun further stated that the people need to understand the kind of Manipur they want to protect for the future.
He said that in order to have a Manipur free from fear and corruption, the people need a new leader who can save the nation. The professor is also optimistic about the different ideas and opinions among the people of Manipur. He said that the way the people express their ideas and opinions about the concept of future Manipur is far better than a “yes sir” mentality.
“Opinions and ideas from different individuals may vary, but they are all eager to protect and preserve the Manipur that our ancestors have preserved for us, facing all challenges,” Professor Mc. Arun said.
