Role of nurse in conflict resolution in violence-hit Manipur

Nurses form the largest health care workforce globally, and Manipur a tiny State in India generates over 10,000 registered nurses from within the State alone. Across the globe we have Manipur nurses who are extremely versatile and contribute to the health and welfare of people in need. Nursing scope point to larger responsibilities than ever, as Manipur has been hit with violence over again and again.

Unity in diversity is the nature in the State, yet violence today causes a severe form of devastation to the normal lives of the people of Manipur. News headlines focus on ‘Women delivered in camps’ which sound fascinating when people hear them, yet the mothers can never feel safe.

The families disperse to save their lives and knows no' boundary as how they feel guilty of not finding their loved ones either. Lost lives, lost homes and zeroing life to scratch is like a lost dream.

To begin a new life, with a new home can be a distant dream to thousands during in this crisis. Living with a single dress, aggression are other road- maps for those in crisis. Healthcare professional awakening is pivotal. Living the path taken to serve people irrespective of caste, creed, or religion holds humane in this trying times.

Nurses were hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic and people are striding towards normalcy and yet again another violence that endangers human has surfaced. These concerns in society pose nurses with harder lives as well.

The them of 2023 for International Nurse’s Day is our Nurse’s Our Future’, looking to enhance the global healthcare, meeting the challenges with strategies through investments made to benefit nurses and the welling-being of people at large.

At the wake of the violence in Manipur, thousands were stranded in camps with hearts on their palms for the safety. To mitigate the suffering and to the health needs of women and children in particular, the team of fearless nurses’

Dr Achuina Golmei, Senior medical officers generously reviewed the inmates in need of health care, ASHA worker Mrs. KH Miranda volunteer to join the team and make a difference and many more health professional came forward to join hands.

Against the tight curfew and high security alert the three Nurses and her team along with the Doctors and Asha worker ventured through the camps to assess the needs of inmates of the camps women and kids were vulnerable and hygiene needs were paramount beside the clothes for all age group, menstrual hygiene played the priority.

Although in a small numbers, sick elderly in the postoperative period with drainage bags, amputed legs with walking clutch and people on cancer treatment were also reviewed in different camps.

Mitigation plan formu-lated count in conducting health screening on ongoing mode to prevent minor health issues.

Mental health is yet another major concern that the effected people will undergo through the years. Professional counselling cognitive behavior and group therapy may induce positive living and wel being of all people concerned.

To position in alignment with the Government, plan to mitigate, healthcare professionals hold major responsibility to exercise one‘s expertise for the welfare of people of Manipur Community Health Officer (NURSES) and nurses across the institution must put' forth health education and support to *make a difference against the impact of violence on human lives.
