How I grew up with this nature- 6
By: Devaraj Takhellambam *

CRACK CRACK...BANG...BANG...BOOM...BOOM .....Happy Diwali to you all...
May this Diwali bring you all the happiness and good fortunes...!

Just might have to write an essay instead of an article to catch up for the lost time but I will keep my journalistic fervor in check.

It was heck of a third quarter and this is my sixth number in my series of boring article's titled "How I grew up with this nature"...lots to talk about... like the Black Eyed Peas..."Lets Get It Started"! 1...2...3...4...5...6...Here we go-

The quest for dosa perfection continues. The weekend's goodness was that during the morning hours of 8.30 AM to 9.30 AM only on Sundays, dosas are served HOT while lunch is served with varieties of mix with Chicken.

And that's what I liked about being in the hostel and I never try to miss the taste... Idlis were served, Sambars were served. Uthapams were served, Upmas were served...but no dosas on other weekdays! That's why I never missed the Sunday special... J

It was going terrific for me. It was so invigorating for me to walk about the MG ROAD and feel the energy...I love coming to Brigade Road !

Brigade Garden, Rs. 10 per hour...Happy hour, No no, not on PITCHER, NO PINE, no BEER...but only INTERNET SURFING...yeah there! Chatting...MIRC...YAHOO MESSENGER Hello, ctc (care to chat), ttyl (talk to you later), brb (be right back)...lol...Kewl...and the internet jargons keep flirting in everybody's mind...I remember I incise a page from a computer magazine listing all of the internet chatting humours..I spend a lot of time researching the different smileys, the short cuts, key combinations and what not!!!

The exciting moment is when you get to know a person; you started dating with her online. The excitement builds up when you start exchanging your hobbies... then write emails... so and so...

Meticulously speaking, it was counting.-.Rs 15+10+25+10+30+50+30+....Where did all the money go? Cyber café...Duh!! I used to take a floppy with me and save all the chattings done and bring back home, login to my lovely friendly PC...and read the chats again...and again...and fall asleep and it was called a sleeping medicine.

I never comprehend that I will become addicted to it until I realized that I had spent all the money and started thinking about which photo to be scanned...Hmm! ....I have a special folder created on my PC as "Her Name"...Day flies by.

The bell at New York stock exchange rings...but you never stopped until the moment you haven't heard anything from her...no emails. Not online anymore. I was defeated once again....Huh! And the epoch of the internet chatting became a dead end. No road leads to success.

Dude, I tell you what – Never do that what I did unless you are pretty sure what you are doing is going to work out...Its an internet prey and a place for the jobless people like me. JUST COME AND GO. And I learned from it. It's no fun! REALLY

The emotions come swirling right down to your spine and touches the soul that makes you feel so lonesome, the pain of a broken heart. The fear of the exam came lurking and add up to my chores of wariness like the fear of the darkness.

The substantial heat generated of the SEMESTER end and the season of change...And it all merge together and formed a black hole – an unknown rejoinder that complicates life and teach you a lesson...I have had so much of fun and later, fun was not a subject that was taught in Engineering.

And that's when I came back to life again...with eyes fixed only on books, day and night. But not on mornings and evenings J

Preparing a project report and watching a movie doesn't go together anymore...BE SERIOUS OR YOU FAIL!! We spent day and night preparing reports, completing lab books, exam stress and sometime cutting the birthday cake with some appetizer what they called " liquid for brains".

It was again another enlightening moment of joy and sadness... September is the month I was born. The month of Joy, happiness LIGHT, and the day I saw this world. The month the exams knock your heads down...exams when the romantic season just starts to bloom...but what can we do in a student's life? You tell me.

Fortunately, there are only a few subjects in the last year and it was not very tough to digest thoroughly but not profoundly. The Project seminar was the cure of another type of insomniac in the history of engineering...Relax! We are almost coming up to the line...and this is the height of Engineering...lets have some fun...We have done so much of work...

I participated in the fashion show organized at college for the year- EXCUSE WHILE I KISS THE SKY. I would be too embarrassed if you ask me how does it look like and what was I doing...but the truth is the college president appointed me, may be because I have a different look.

No no...That didn't convince me to participate yet. And I saw this beautiful Punjabi lady participating...and I became so overwhelmed that I didn't think twice or hesitate to join but became more energetic...spent late evenings doing rehearsal...and talking...she was very sweet and friendly.

But dude! I am always unlucky when it comes to girls...okay, that should answer your questions what happened next...yes, I am a loser.

Finally...there is the vagabond running stealthily to get a zerox copy in the monsoon of books, collect the photocopies of several different notes, go run and take a zerox copy. It was a tradition in engineering hood.

Where is my Book? I never realized that I ever had a book until before few days of the exam. I must have taken it lightly or must have tried to save money and invest on "liquid for brains", I don't remember. And I won't remember too.

Well, I fumbled into my room. Pluck in the earphone and listen to my favourite song of the time – " Never say goodbye- Bon Jovi". There were 3 of us in the room and what's amazing is all of us have a different taste in terms of studies...One of us will study from evening 8 till 12 and will sleep off, one will study from 12AM till 5 am in the morning and I fall into the intersection of the two timings.

So the alarm clock will always ring and my room was functioning round the clock 24/7....If it was an industry, we would have been making a lot of profits. No Anil or Mukesh could have defeated the way the clock works in my room. J

Well, so the exam starts without fail...it never fails. It always starts on time... Do you know that?

Just before 1 month of the exam there will be news scattering around and hovering everywhere in the campus about the postponement of the exam...and it was just a news...and everybody was a good news reporter but it always turns out to be a rumor...I hate these kind of news because it never comes true. You bet!

Finally, the last day of the exam...and everybody in their best of moods...some will pray, some will shout, some scream, some packing up, some will keep watching Cricket. Some have already given up! I didn't know what to do.

Infact, I enjoy doing a bit of all. My friend had a guitar and although I don't know how to play, I will just try to release the tense....and trust me it works!

India won the cricket match! BANG BANG. Bangalore ---Celebrations!

On that pretext...my best wishes to you and your families on Diwali. Stay well and stay safe.

Halt! STOP. Wait – I will tell you about the post engineering flu and 9/11 Attack on the US Twin Tower hangover... Life is beautiful. Enjoy every moment my dear friends.

PS: - Thanks to Tina and SonyBoy for the nice feedbacks.
-I love getting good feedbacks, you know J
