Radiation has been used for probing and modifying matter leading to vast range of possibilities of research both in basic and applied sciences. The UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research has been providing support to the University research community for use of the radiation (including ions and photons) based research facilities available at VECC, Kolkata, RRCAT, Indore, BARC Mumbai, IGCAR, Kalpakkam, Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar and various support facilities available at the Consortium centres/node. The Consortium is an autonomous body under UGC which provides an interface between University researchers and various DAE institutes for use of various facilities by the university users.

The orientation workshop on ?Radiation?Its Applications in Physical, Chemical and Life Sciences? is being organized in collaboration with Department of Chemistry, Mizoram University during 29-31 October 2014.This workshop will be first of its kind in the State of Mizoram.

The main thrust of the workshop would be to identify research areas of overlapping interest so that collaborative research proposals from universities/colleges and other teaching institutes may be initiated.

TOPICS
o Applications of Radiation in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences
o Characterization of atoms, molecules and materials (Neutron Scattering, NAA Infrared-, Raman-Fluorescence, SEM, TEM, PIXE,
RBS, XRF, XRD, Mössbauer Spectroscopy, Positron annihilation spectroscopy)
o Radiation Sources and their applications (Particle accelerators, Radioactivity, Nuclear Reactors, Synchrotron)
o Ion Beam modification of Materials; Materials Synthesis
o Magnetic materials; Properties at high mag. field & at low temp., Multifunctional Materials, Nano-composites
o Nuclear Physics (Nuclear Spectroscopy & Reactions)

The workshop will comprise of invited talks/research presentations. Contributions (max two pages) may be sent through email (or on plain paper). Faculty/ Scientists and Research Students from Universities, Colleges, and other Institutes, interested in attending this workshop may write to us through e-mail (or on plain paper) giving details, such as name, designation, affiliation, address for correspondence with contact phone number/email ID, research interest & experience, list of related publications, whether financial support required (a limited financial support is available).
